Dear PSD Staff, Parents and Community Members:

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to share my heartfelt gratitude with the teachers and staff of our School District, our students, and our community for your efforts and involvement in these difficult times.

We all understand that the nation is in a recession and that our state legislature is facing a tremendous loss in revenue. This translates to a loss in revenue to the Peninsula School District of approximately $3,000,000 for the 2009-2010 school year. In addition, student enrollment continues to decline and, as a result, we anticipate a $2,000,000 loss in revenue next year.

Because of these challenges, the Board must make decisions which are not just difficult but which run counter to our efforts over the last several years. In spite of this, we will continue to do the best we can with what we have and to maintain our focus on what we believe is in the best interest of our students. On behalf of each and every member of the Board, I want to thank you for remaining positive, for understanding that these are extraordinary times, and for your effort and involvement in the future of our School District.

Jill Guernsey,
President, Board of Directors
Peninsula School District
