School Board Names Bahr as next superintendent

The Peninsula School District Board of Directors announced Friday, March 19 that Krestin Bahr, superintendent of Eatonville School District, will be the district’s next superintendent.

The board chose Bahr to be Peninsula School District’s next leader after an extensive superintendent search process led by consultant firm Northwest Leadership Associates, who was hired by the board in October 2020. Preliminary interviews were held with five semi-finalists on Saturday, March 13, and day-long second interviews with various staff groups and the community were held with the two finalist candidates, Krestin Bahr and Tim Winter, South Kitsap School District Superintendent, on March 16 and 17.

The importance of moving education forward strategically and innovatively has been a common theme in district staff, parent, and community member feedback.

Peninsula School Board President David Olson said, "The board has spent several months reviewing all stakeholder input from various surveys and extensively researched each candidate in preparing for this monumental decision. We were humbled to have such accomplished and deserving applicants.

Olson said, “We ultimately chose the candidate with a proven track record of transformative and inspiring leadership, leading to greater outcomes for students and growth opportunities for staff – and take the district to the next level. Krestin Bahr is very aware of and committed to bringing our community together to build a vision and strategic plan that grows an educational environment which prepares all students for life beyond the Peninsula School District."

Bahr is excited to become Peninsula School District’s next leader. “I look forward to sharing my passionate advocacy of all students and their success with everyone in the Peninsula School District,” Bahr said. “I am truly honored and humbled to be your next superintendent. I can’t wait to get started.”

During the superintendent search process, all staff, families, and community members had an opportunity to take a survey to inform the district about the personal attributes and qualities our community would like to see in the next leader of Peninsula School District.

Current superintendent, Dr. Art Jarvis, who was selected by the board in July of 2018 as the district’s interim Superintendent, will retire from the district on June 30, 2021.

The board finalized the contract for Bahr at its regular meeting on Thursday, March 25, and she will officially assume the job on July 1, 2021.
