Reading Is Fundamental

Evergreen has enjoyed a very successful and long running reading program called Reading Is Fundamental.  This program has benefited our students for seventeen years!  Every child chooses a book from a wide selection of titles that is his/hers to keep.  They take these books home to add to their personal library.

We have a strong group of volunteers – staff, parents, and community members – who select the books, plan special activities and read with the children.  Three times a year we have RIF Days to celebrate reading and give books away.

Evergreen has been very fortunate to have strong support from two community groups.  The Key Peninsula Veterans Association has donated funds and many hours of their time reading to our students at RIF.  The Gig Harbor Garden Tour Association have also donated funds and visited our school on RIF Days.  Without this support our wonderful reading program would not exist.

We believe that the best way to help children learn is to involve them early and often with books and reading.  We strongly believe children who read will grow up to be adults who read.

If you would like to be a part of Reading Is Fundamental please call the school office at 253-530-1300.  We would love to have you.

Below is one of our Key Peninsula Veterans reading w/students at our first RIF Day this year!
