A primary focus of the Henderson Bay Big Picture model is to have students engage in internships as a major part of their learning. Our students have the opportunity to learn along side professionals in the work environment up to two days per week. We want our students exposed to multiple experiences and opportunities so they can explore their passions and interests.
In order to create these hands on experiences we are reaching out to professionals in all fields in the Gig Harbor/Key Peninsula area.
There are several ways you can get involved:
- Internship Mentor – During the internship the student works side by side with their mentor in the workplace, taking on as many challenges as they can and learning with a professional. The student, mentor and the student’s faculty advisor develop a plan collaboratively for how the student can learn in the work environment, including a student project that benefits the work place. Internships are expected to be approximately 3 months long, but can go longer or shorter if appropriate.
- Host a Shadow Day – Host a student or students in your work setting, allowing them to see your workplace in action. We want students exposed to multiple experiences and opportunities so they can explore their interests and passions.
- Present at Our School – We are always looking for professionals from all business environments to visit our school and give a career or interest talk to our students. If they don’t know your job exists, then there is a good chance they won’t pursue it. Come be an ambassador for your career field!
