When deciding who to ask, look for people who know you well in different settings and who see different sides of you. Remember – you need a minimum of “2” recommendations for your scholarship notebook. Only one should be from a HBHS staff member.
POSSIBLE OPTIONS FOR RECOMMENDATION LETTERS
- HBHS staff member (Teacher, Counselor, Principal, etc.)
- Employer and/or Supervisor from Work
- Youth Group Leader
- Pastor and/or Minister
- Close Friend of Family Whom Can Speak to Your Character
- Volunteer Group Leader
Allow the person enough time to write the letter (2 – 3 weeks notice). Fill out the “Request for Letter of Recommendation” form completely and provide them with your deadline. If you have not received the letter after reminding the writer, ask someone else. Do not assume that a person will write a recommendation for you if you leave a request on a voice mail/text. Make a personal contact with the individual.
Once you have the completed letters of recommendation, SAVE THE ORIGINALS and use copies in your scholarship notebook. These letters will be of value to you in the future as you apply to colleges, for other scholarships, and for work.
