Hour of code at Purdy
“The Hour of Code is designed to demystify code and show that computer science is not rocket science—anybody can learn the basics,” Hadi Partovi , founder and CEO of Code.org says on the website.
Mrs. Jardin’s class was one of the many groups that worked on coding across the district by diving into the lessons found on https://hourofcode.com/us/learn and catching on quick. With activities for pre-readers all the way up to senior citizens there is something for everyone to learn.
Mrs. Jardin’s class focused on the Star Wars: Building a Galaxy with Cod activity. At first the students used blocks to put together code. As the students advanced through the levels they have to improve their code and interact with the characters using code to complete each level. After completing the tutorial students are presented with a printable certificate that inspire them to keep on learning code.
By exploring and successfully completing the foundational lessons the website allows students to begin to master 21st century skills Mrs. Jardin’s students are learning that technology is not just something that you use but it enables them to create, and in that way they begin to understand that they can change the world one block of code at a time.
