Support for Kopachuck Students

For students with the greatest need:

Enrichment

Who is in this class?  Students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs), typically with more than two goal areas, receive this yearlong class.

Reading Support Class (for 6th, 7th and 8th grades)

Who is in this class?  Students that scored Level 1 or low Level 2 on the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) English/Language Arts (ELA) and teacher recommendation.

What’s the curriculum like?  Using iReady software, this class takes place during the six period day, rather than during Pack to provide additional time. iReady software delivers individual lessons depending on the students’ reading levels. Students engage in additional study skills and reading lessons.

Math Support Class (for 7th and 8th grades)

Who is in this class?  Students that scored Level 1 or low Level 2 on the Math SBA and teacher recommendation.

What’s the curriculum like?  Using iReady software, this class takes place during the six period day, rather than during Pack to provide additional time. iReady software delivers individual lessons depending on the students’ foundational math skills. In addition, students engage in math lessons.  For 6th graders, in Math 6 classes, a para educator is available to provide extra assistance.

Support classes are taught by a teacher that also teaches that grade level. Students have these teachers for both Support and the course.

For students who need a little extra help:

Reading Pack (for 6-8th graders)

Who is in this class?  Students that scored Level 2 on the SBA ELA and teacher recommendation.

What’s the curriculum like?  Students spend approximately 45 minutes using the iReady software for individualized instruction and, for the remainder, read on their own and as a class to practice reading.

Math Pack (for 6-8th graders)

Who is in this class?  Students that scored Level 2 on the Math SBA and teacher recommendation.

What’s the curriculum like?  Student receive extra lessons on the math skills and concepts that they’re learning in their math classes. This involves pre- and post-teaching concepts.

Study Table

Study Table is designed for students who have received Ds and/or Fs in a class, who would respond to coaching on study skills and learning in a small setting and are willing to give up an elective. This is a one-trimester option.

For all students:

Teachers are working on furthering student engagement through professional learning communities and professional development.  In addition, all students will use planners. Teachers and administrators will reinforce use with direct instruction and incentives.

All 6th graders received Pack Study Skills lessons, such as maintaining a growth versus fixed mindset, using tools for success (such as test taking skills), staying organized and exploring their learning styles.
