Students can drop by to visit with a counselor before school or during lunch.
They also can complete a form located in the counseling office requesting to speak with a counselor.
We hope that our counselors’ introductions will encourage our students to seek help, when needed.
Mrs. Katie Hager: Serving students whose last names begin with A-K
I am excited to be new to Kopachuck Middle School! My husband and I moved here from Puyallup one year ago with the plan that I would eventually transition to work in this beautiful community of Gig Harbor where we live. After one year of commuting, I decided to take the leap!
A little bit about me: I received my Bachelor’s of Arts Degree from Western Washington University and my Masters in Counseling and Education from University of Puget Sound. Until now, my professional school counseling experience has been in the Puyallup School District. I have worked at the high school and elementary levels and I LOVE working with all students and their families. I have raised two children (both adults now – yahoo!). My hobbies include taking care of my 14-year-old Standard Poodle and my spoiled 4-year-old Shih Tzu. I also enjoy kayaking, crafting, crocheting, cooking. My passion lies in helping students feel a sense of belonging here at Kopachuck! My goal is to support them socially, emotionally and academically in any way I can. I want them to be successful students and citizens.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me either by phone or email: 253-530-4133 or email@example.com.
It’s going to be a great year and I look forward to working with you and your kids!
Mrs. Sammie Griffin: Serving students whose last names begin with L-Z.
This will be my second year at Kopachuck, and I am so excited to not only be back, but to be back full time! I received my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Washington and I received my Masters of Education in Counseling from the University of Puget Sound. Some fun facts about me: I am a die-hard Husky football fan. I love sports, reading, and spending time with my husband and our dog, Tiki, who is a one-year-old German Shepherd, and cat, Shaggy who is a three-year-old Maine Coon. I want all students to feel included and safe. I am available to help with academic, social, emotional and any other issues or situations that may occur. I aim to be a great resource and advocate for students! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me either by phone or email: 253-530-4132 or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Training includes a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Education with courses in personality and learning theory, child development and counseling techniques. We hold a counseling certificate from the State of Washington. However, we are not licensed psychologist/psychiatrists and do not provide therapy during the school day.
The school counselors are here to help you with your concerns. Please check in with your teacher to get a pass to the counseling office to sign up for an appointment. The counselors will send a note to excuse you from class when they are available to see you.
Parents can call the Guidance Department to arrange for student conferences as well.
