Student Leaders Make Recycling Clearer
Students and parents are sometimes surprised that they must remove lids from plastic bottles in order to recycle them. This is being cleared up now that Mrs. Hollett met with Karen Hultgren, Solid Waste Recycling Analyst. In our Commons, we installed collection bags that are clear to demonstrate what’s acceptable. It’s amazing that students are more responsible about what they throw in the recycling bag now that they can see what’s in there.
Did you know that following CANNOT be recycled?
- Shredded paper
- Lids of any kind
- Plasticized paper
- Paper coffee cups
- Wrappers, such as chip bags
- Milk cartons
The good news is almost all paper can be recycled, even envelopes with the plastic windows. CLEAN aluminum cans and plastic bottles, jugs and tubs (yogurt, sour cream) are okay as long as the lids are removed. We appreciate you reinforcing these recycling guidelines at home.
Who Will Win the Apple Cup?
Um . . . the Apple Cup Food Drive, that is, which begins on Tuesday. Collection bags will be in each Pack class and students can choose to put their items in the Cougar or Husky bags to support their favorite team. The big winners will be the FISH Food Bank and the people in our community who are struggling to make ends meet.
The food drive will continue through the end of November.
We ended our week with a heartfelt assembly to honor our Veterans. We appreciated all of our parents that attended our students’ reverent behavior, and our musical performers. Have a restful long weekend and be kind to each other in honor of our Veterans.
