Illustrative Math Materials on Display at Kopachuck
All middle school math teachers have been participating in a pilot of math materials this year. The two curricular resources piloted were CPM and Illustrative Math. In February, middle school math teachers from across the District met to discuss the pros and cons associated with each of these resources and selected Illustrative Math as the resource they felt will best meet the needs of our students going forward.
The Illustrative Math materials being recommended for adoption will be on display and available to view in the Kopachuck Middle School main office. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to learn more about Illustrative Math during an informational session at the District Office on Tuesday, April 3rd from 4:00-6:00 pm. Please join us! You are also welcome to view the materials at the District Office through Wednesday, April 11th during business hours. Included are one workbook per grade level, comment forms, and parent resource cards.
If you are not able to come in to review the materials on these dates, or if you have further questions about the recommended math materials, you may contact Chaya Venkatesh at 253-530-1029.
8th Grade Event will be held at Miracle Ranch again this year! ASB & Leadership students will be working hard with the administration to create a memorable event for all our 8th graders. We don’t know the exact cost yet, but it will likely be similar to last year. The cost will include a shirt, transportation, lunch, all the fun events at Miracle Ranch, and a snack!
Principal’s Table Talk
As parents and educators working with adolescents, we’re well aware that adolescent brains are pleasure-seeking devices. Their developing brains cause them to be impulsive, and yet their brains are extremely receptive to learning – better than adults’. To read more, go to our Principal’s Table Talk.
Our next KPTSA General Meeting is Monday, May 7th, at 9:15am.
PSD BOND INFO and HOW TO GET INVOLVED
As you are probably aware of by now, there will be a PSD Bond on our April Ballot. After an exhaustive research process, the Peninsula School District (using input from parents, teachers, administrators, consultants and others) has drafted a plan to address the fire/safety concerns and deteriorating conditions of our PSD schools. If you would like a detailed analysis of what they found, please click on the Stand Up for Peninsula Schools (SUP) link here: https://www.standup4schools.org Several critical safety and building needs will be addressed when the Bond passes – including right here at KMS, where we need a need water carrying system upgrade in the event of a fire, a more controlled/safer campus and modernized science classrooms. Every school and every student in PSD will benefit from the Bond’s approval. It is very important that you and all Gig Harbor voters get well-versed on what a vote either way could mean for the future.
