Throughout Kopachuck’s building, approximately 500 student and staff stars, with messages about what we are proud of, convey that everyone has talents and achievements to celebrate.
This year, we adapted our Teacher Recognition Awards program to be more diverse in recognizing all of the varied strengths and interests of our community. The review committee included our assistant principal, plus classified and certificated staff members, two of which are Kopachuck parents, too. The committee members read this article about the power of internal versus external motivation and brainstormed on what we envision for Kopachuck.
Students participated in grade-level assemblies that acknowledged times when they persevered on an assignment or that they have helped another, which aligns with our mission statement: At Kopachuck, we take pride in Perseverance, Responsibility, Integrity, Diversity and Excellence.
As a follow up to our assemblies, students and staff participated in a school-wide spirit day during which they wore outfits or items related to their talents and achievements. In addition, students completed a cut out of a star, with the statement “I’m proud of. . . .” Their responses ranged in celebrations, such as:
- Making the basketball team,
- My native culture,
- My persistence,
- My grades compared to last trimester,
- My family, especially fostering kids,
- The friends I choose,
- My artistic skills, and
- My school!
Join us in our celebration of Kopachuck’s proud moments and ask your son or daughter what he or she wrote on the star. Also, share what you’re proud of with your children, too!
