Prior to the February 12 election featuring our bond measure, the district announced the purchase of the Boys & Girls Club off of Skansi Road, and also announced that it would open as school #10 in the fall of 2019.
On February 14 the district recommended to the Board opening School #10 as a Choice School (for an FAQ on Choice Schools click here). To decide the theme, the district was to solicit feedback between Feb. 14 and Feb. 28 and bring back a recommendation. You may have seen a letter from John Hellwich Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Programs announcing the rationale for these recommendations and a summary of the three choices.
At the February 28 Board meeting, Superintendent Art Jarvis announced that the district and the Board have listened to the feedback from the staff and community and would be taking some additional time to consider the recommendations.
The Board will consider multiple options at the March 7 Study Session for both the launch of school #10 and the best ways to handle the overcrowding issue for the fall and beyond as we try to meet those challenges before our grand openings in the fall of 2021. The Board will not take action at the March 7 and will take as much time as needed to make the best decisions for our students, staff, and community.
