OctoberBest at PHS!
From Director Kara Beloate: “This is a devised theatre piece, which means we are creating it ourselves! We are using well-known literary texts and synthesizing them to create one new original piece based around the idea of Fate. We are using famous poems, including “The Puppet Master”, and an intertextual combining of “The Raven” and “The Highway Man” (this is like a “mash up” in contemporary music), using the two famous pieces to create one new original piece with a new meaning. We are also using the children’s fable, The Spider & The Fly, and the Fate Sisters from Greek Mythology, and the Weird Sisters from Shakespeare’s MACBETH. The featured piece is the one act play, THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW. Our idea is to take famous works with an Autumn feel to create what we call OCTOBERBEST – a tribute to these great works of literature. We have three student directors and a student production manager. This production will last just over an hour, is also a dessert theatre, and done in black box. All for only $10!”
