Although the final school board results will not be certified until later this month, I would like to congratulate Lori Glover, Natalie Wimberley, and Chuck West for their election wins. They have been selected for a special position of trust, serving on the Peninsula School District Board of Directors. Together with continuing board members Deb Krishnadasan and David Olson, they will constitute a governing board with the stated purpose of providing vision, accountability, and advocacy for the children of this community. These board members serve tirelessly as volunteers, often facing difficult or unpopular choices. On behalf of the entire school district, I congratulate them and I thank them for this service.
To exiting board members, Marcia Harris and Leslie Harbaugh, we also offer our deepest appreciation for the years of service they have provided to the schools and community. They have given their time, their expertise, their passion, and their hearts to the work of providing a great education system. Nine thousand children thank you and wish you well.
To candidate Sami Jensen, I offer my appreciation for being willing to enter the political arena and giving your time to our schools. Thank you for your willingness to step forward and offer your assistance.
This current school year promises to be packed with major challenges for the board of directors. Two great examples would include the need to replace the expiring operations levy, and the construction launch for four new schools — one of which will open in the fall of 2020. Thanks to all of you for your willingness to meet those great challenges and the many others that await.
Dr. Art Jarvis, Superintendent
