Dear Parents/Guardians of 5th Grade Students,
The State of Washington mandates that every school have a program in place for prevention education of HIV/AIDS. In fifth grade, the Peninsula School District presently uses material from the KNOW curriculum published by OSPI and the Puberty Workshop Curriculum published by OSPI ad Puberty Workshop Curriculum published by Human Relations Media. These videos discuss changes that occur with girls and boys during the years of puberty.
A meeting will be held on Thursday March 14, 2019 from 4:30-5:30 pm in the Vaughn Library to provide parents an opportunity to preview the HIV Prevention education program and the human growth videos. Instructional materials will be available for your inspection. This will enable you and your child to have some meaningful family discussions both before and after the classroom presentations.
Following a preview of the materials, parents who wish to have their child excused from participation with any of the materials may sign a release from. State Law provides that a parent or guardian must attend such a meeting before they can have their child excused from participation in the HIV prevention program.
We look forward to seeing and discussing this important topic with you. If you have any questions about his meeting, please contact your child’s teacher.
