Krestin G. Bahr is a transformational education leader who has dedicated her career to creating innovative, student-centered learning environments that inspire both educators and learners to excel. As Superintendent of the Peninsula School District (PSD) in Gig Harbor, Washington, she leads a vibrant community of 9,000 students and staff across 17 schools, bringing her passionate belief in the power of education to create positive change.
Since joining PSD in 2021, Krestin has orchestrated an unprecedented period of growth and innovation. Her leadership has guided the successful opening of four new schools and overseen the comprehensive remodel of two middle schools, while securing grants to establish three Mastery-Based Arts Impact Schools. Under her guidance, PSD has earned national recognition as an AASA "District to Watch" in 2024, particularly for its groundbreaking work in early literacy and environmental sustainability. In 2025, PSD achieved further distinction when it was selected by the Center for Digital Education (CDE) and the National School Board Association (NSBA) as one of only three districts nationwide to receive the 2024 Innovative Technology Integration award for their leadership in technology innovation. This commitment to excellence is reflected in rising graduation rates across all three high schools, which have shown consistent annual increases under her leadership. Additionally, Evergreen and Artondale Elementary Schools have been recognized as Washington's Green Schools, while three other schools have achieved the prestigious OSPI STEM Lighthouse School designation. Krestin has also emerged as a leading voice in educational innovation, presenting at prestigious conferences including the AASA AI Super Summit 2025 and AI Innovation Summit 2025.
Prior to PSD, Krestin served as Superintendent of Eatonville School District from 2013 to 2021, where she implemented several innovative initiatives that gained national attention. She launched the GRITS (Growing Relationships in The Soil) farm program, integrating hands-on agricultural education with STEM learning. Under her leadership, Eatonville earned recognition as a Google Reference District, showcasing the district's commitment to technology integration in education. Her pioneering work in outdoor learning initiatives and STEM education led to three OSPI STEM Lighthouse School designations and multiple Green Ribbon Awards.
During the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic, Krestin's leadership extended beyond her district as she served as WASA President, working closely with the Governor's office to develop and implement comprehensive communication and instruction delivery plans that became crucial resources for schools across Washington state. This collaborative effort demonstrated her ability to lead effectively during unprecedented times while ensuring educational continuity for students throughout the state.
A lifelong learner herself, Krestin holds a Superintendent Certification from Washington State University, a Master of Education from City University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Science from Pacific Lutheran University. Her commitment to educational excellence extends beyond her district roles – she serves on the AASA Governing Committee and Executive Committee representing the West Coast, and was appointed to the Professional Educator Standards Board by the Governor.
