High School and Beyond Plan

  • WHAT DOES YOUR FUTURE HOLD?

    View the recording from the High School & Beyond/Naviance Parent Webinar below. You can also view the Introduction to Naviance video here.

    The Peninsula School District is proud to offer Naviance as a tool to inspire and empower every student through high school and support their unique journey to excellence!

    The purpose of Naviance is to enable self-discovery, academic organization, college preparation, and career exploration. These services come in the form of;

    • College matching tools;
    • Personality tests;
    • Surveys;
    • Career assessments; and
    • Course planning.

    The program encourages students to discover their interests and strengths and identify what their long-term goals are. Gradually, they are able to then establish a course of study–making their High School and Beyond Plan actionable. Additionally, Naviance also offers its services to students pursuing associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees by providing them with assistance and resources in order to succeed in completing their degrees.

    How to access Naviance?

    Students can log into Naviance through their Portal.

Earn College Credits in High School

Dual credit programs allow students to earn high school and college credit simultaneously. Students who earn college credit are more likely to graduate high school, enroll in college, and complete college degrees.

There are three main ways that students can get dual credit.

1. Credit by passing a college course—Complete and pass college courses through Running Start and College in the High School.
2. Credit by examination—Earn a score of 3 or better on standardized exams. Exams include Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and Cambridge International Program.
3. Credit by articulation—Complete career and technical education (CTE) dual credit courses.

Although multiple dual credit programs are offered in Washington, not all programs are available at all high schools.

The Washington Student Achievement Council logo features a pencil with leaves, representing education and growth.

Learn more specifics about each program at the WSAC site.

  • The Community and Technical Colleges of Washington State Board logo.

    Career and Technical Education (CTE) Dual Credit offers high school students the opportunity to earn college credit for successful completion of CTE courses taught at their schools.

    PC3, Pierce County Careers Connection is the organization that partners Peninsula School District and other Pierce County school districts to offer CTE Dual Credit options (formerly known as Tech Prep), in career and technical programs.  The partner colleges include Clover Park Technical College, Bates Technical College, and Pierce College.

    (See the Course Catalogs for a list of PC3 approved courses)

  • The Community and Technical Colleges of Washington State Board logo.

    College in the High School (CiHS) programs provide college-level academic courses in high schools for qualified students.

    To provide CiHS classes, a high school contracts with a college or university. Together, they define the criteria for student eligibility. Each contract defines whether participation is limited to those students who want to earn college credit, or whether students who do not want to earn college credit may also take the class.

  • The Community and Technical Colleges of Washington State Board logo.

    The Running Start programs allow 11th and 12th-grade students to take college courses at one of Washington's 34 community and technical colleges. Students can earn college credits and high school credits simultaneously.

  • The College Board logo.

    The AP Program offers college-level courses and exams students can take in high school. AP courses help students earn college credits, save time and money, stand out on college applications, and more.

    Speak to your school counselor to register for AP courses.
