At Peninsula School District, we are committed to preparing every student for life after graduation. Through our Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs, students can explore high-demand fields such as health sciences, engineering, business, and skilled trades – earning industry-recognized certifications and even college credit while still in high school. Our partnership with Pierce County Skills Center and opportunities like Running Start and College in the High School give students flexible pathways to continue their education and career exploration.

Additionally, our schools offer personalized support through counselors, career specialists, and Future Ready events, where students can connect directly with colleges, military representatives, and local employers. Whether students plan to attend a four-year university, start at a community college, enter the workforce, or serve in the military, PSD provides the tools, guidance, and opportunities they need to confidently take their next steps.

  • The High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP) is a graduation requirement in Washington State, designed to help students connect their high school experiences with future career and educational goals. In the Peninsula School District, we will transition from Naviance to utilize SchooLinks, a comprehensive platform that streamlines the HSBP process, providing students and families with the tools necessary for effective planning and goal setting.

    Overview of HSBP Requirements

    The HSBP is a personalized plan that guides students through high school and prepares them for post-secondary endeavors. Key components include:

    • Career Interest Assessments: Helping students identify potential career paths based on their interests and strengths.

    • Educational Goals: Setting short-term and long-term academic objectives.

    • Four-Year Course Plan: Mapping out high school courses to meet graduation requirements and align with career and educational aspirations.

    • Resume and Activity Log: Documenting extracurricular activities, work experience, and achievements.

    Timeline: Start in 7th Grade, Refine Through High School

    • 7th–8th Grade: Introduction to the HSBP process begins with career exploration and initial goal setting.

    • 9th–10th Grade: Students develop and refine their four-year course plans, aligning them with evolving interests and goals.

    • 11th–12th Grade: Focus shifts to post-secondary planning, including college applications, vocational training, or workforce entry, with continuous updates to the HSBP.

    Why join the military?

    Many choose to enlist because of their patriotism and a sense of duty. Joining the military also provides job training and economic stability. There is pay and benefits, travel opportunities, and educational opportunities. You must be a U.S. Citizen or a resident alien to enlist. 

    During your freshman and sophomore year: 

    1. Research different military branches and career opportunities. 
    2. Attend a college and career fair at your high school. Check the calendar for upcoming events. 
    3. Make sure you are on the path toward graduation. 
    4. Start planning CTE courses that align with your chosen military career path. Meet with your counselor to learn more. 
    5. Consider joining the NJROTC program. 

    During your junior and senior years: 

    1. Continue your research. 
    2. Attend the college and career fair at your high school. Check the calendar for upcoming events. 
    3. Meet with a local military recruiter. 
    4. Take the ASVAB both years. Sign up Here.
    5. Speak with your counselor about joining a college ROTC program.

    In your senior year:

    1. Enlist with your local recruiter after you turn 17. 
    2. Pass a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) medical exam.
