Human Sciences – Career & Technical Education
Where Caring Becomes a Career

Peninsula School District’s Human Sciences CTE program equips students with the communication, interpersonal, and wellness skills needed to support individuals, families, and communities. These people-centered courses build practical knowledge, empathy, and leadership while giving students hands-on experience exploring meaningful career fields.

Students can pursue courses including:

  • American Sign Language (ASL) 1
  • ASL 2
  • ASL 3
  • ASL 4
  • Child Psychology
  • Community Leadership
  • Health

From the classroom to the community, students in this program develop skills in language and communication, human development, leadership, and personal and public health while preparing for careers in interpreting, education, psychology, social services, community health, and healthcare.

Whether entering the workforce, pursuing further training, or heading to college, students graduate from the Human Sciences pathway with real-world knowledge, valuable life skills, and a head start on rewarding careers.

Projected Growth & Industry Demand

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects steady demand for careers that support health, communication, and community well-being from 2024 to 2034:

  • Community and Social Service Occupations overall are projected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations from 2024 to 2034, with about 313,700 openings projected each year.
  • Community Health Workers are projected to grow 11 percent from 2024 to 2034, much faster than the average for all occupations, with about 7,800 openings projected each year. To enter the field, they typically need at least a high school diploma.
  • Health Education Specialists are projected to grow 4 percent from 2024 to 2034, about as fast as the average for all occupations, with about 7,900 openings projected each year.
  • Interpreters and Translators, who convert information from one language into another and may work in spoken or sign language, will see about 6,900 openings projected each year.

PSD's Human Sciences CTE program is aligned with career fields that value communication, compassion, and leadership. Whether students are drawn to ASL interpreting, child development, community leadership, or health and wellness, our courses support future-ready learning and meaningful career pathways.
