Whether entering the workforce, pursuing technical training, or heading to college, students graduate from the Skilled Trade Arts pathway with real-world knowledge, a professional portfolio, and a head start on in-demand careers.

Projected Growth & Industry Demand

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects steady openings for skilled artisans and designers through 2034, driven largely by the need to replace workers who retire or change careers:

  • Arts and Design Occupations as a whole are expected to see about 84,900 openings each year, on average, largely due to the need to replace workers who leave the occupations permanently.
  • Craft and Fine Artists use techniques such as knitting, weaving, glassblowing, painting, drawing, and sculpting to create functional and decorative works. They earned a median annual wage of $56,260 in May 2024.
  • Jewelers and Precious Stone and Metal Workers, who design, construct, adjust, repair, appraise and sell jewelry and related products, will see about 4,000 openings projected each year. Many learn their skills on the job, and some complete an apprenticeship or trade school program.
  • Fashion Designers, who create clothing, accessories, and footwear, earned a median annual wage of $80,690 in May 2024, with about 2,300 openings projected each year.

PSD's Skilled Trade Arts CTE program is aligned with career fields that value craftsmanship, creativity, and hands-on technical skill. Whether students are drawn to glass art, jewelry and metalsmithing, fashion and apparel, or building their own creative business, our courses support future-ready learning and meaningful career pathways.
